To bang or not to bang?
If you’ve been asking yourself that question lately, you’re not alone. Our consultation chairs have been FULL of it. Your Pinterest board is probably full of it too. We know ours is.
And we get it: a fringe is the biggest transformation you can make without losing an inch of length. It changes the entire focal point of your haircut, opens up your eyes and cheekbones, and honestly? It’s easier to maintain than you think.
But here’s the thing: bangs in 2026 aren’t what they used to be. They’re all not blunt and heavy. They’re textured. They’re personalized. They’re built to work with your hair, not against it. Which means there’s probably one that’s perfect for you, whatever your commitment level is.
So let’s break down the five fringes worth getting right now, ranked from “just testing the waters” to “full send.”

Before you screenshot anything, three truths from behind the chair:
Bangs are tailored, not one-size-fits-all. Your face shape, hair texture, and how your hair naturally falls matters. This is exactly what the consult is for, bring your inspo, and let’s talk honestly about what will actually work for you.
Maintenance is the real commitment. Some fringes grow out gracefully while you’re not even thinking about them. Some need a trim every two weeks, no exceptions. Know which relationship you’re entering before the scissors come out.
It’s summer right now. A heavy fringe on a sweaty forehead is a choice. The fringes we’re ranking work because they’re lighter and airier, but know your own texture and humidity tolerance.

Wispy, feathered, and genuinely subtle. This fringe grazes the brows and blends seamlessly into your layers. You can wear it parted, swept to the side, or tucked behind your ears depending on your mood. It’s the fringe equivalent of dipping a toe in.
Best for: Anyone bang-curious but nervous. Round faces especially love this one because it opens up the features without weight. Fine hair, high foreheads, anyone who wants the idea of bangs without the commitment.
Maintenance: Basically none. It grows out into face-framing pieces like it was always supposed to be there.
Styling: A quick blast with the dryer or straight air-drying. That’s genuinely the whole routine.
The Tools: A small round brush and a lightweight texture spray (KEVIN.MURPHY’s DOO.OVER works perfectly) keep it effortless.

The most-requested fringe in our chairs, and for good reason. Shortest in the middle, melting into the sides, skimming the cheekbones like it was born there. The newest versions are softer, longer, and more blended than the ones you saved on Pinterest two years ago. (And yes, the internet keeps announcing its death. Meanwhile it keeps booking out our schedule. Classics don’t panic.)
Best for: Basically everyone. This is genuinely the single most flattering, most forgiving entry point into fringe territory. If it’s your first bang, it should probably be this one.
Maintenance: Moderate. It grows out beautifully, which is 90% of why we love it.
Styling: Blow-dry away from the face with a medium round brush, or add a loose bend with a curling iron. Done in five minutes.

Heavy layering, separated ends, zero precision. This is the fringe equivalent of the lived-in color we’re known for. Soft, textured, intentionally undone. It has personality, and that personality is attitude.
Best for: Medium-to-thick hair, especially if you have natural wave or curl. Anyone who wants movement and personality in their cut without looking like they’re trying too hard.
Maintenance: Low-to-moderate. You’re styling the texture, not fighting it.
Styling: Diffuse on low heat, scrunch with a curl cream, or let it air dry with creaseless clips. The messier it looks, the better it works. Genuinely.

Solid line, sharp, graphic. This is the statement. Your face is fully on display, and that’s exactly the appeal. Unlike the soft, textured trends everywhere else, the blunt bang is intentionally precise. It’s a choice. It says something.
The 2026 version isn’t the severe Cher cut of the ’70s. It’s softer through the ends, slightly grown-out, a little textured so it reads fashion, not costume.
Best for: Strong bone structure. Square and heart-shaped faces, especially. The slight texture softens the overall effect. Clients who make decisions and commit fully.
Maintenance: HIGH. This is a standing-appointment fringe, trims every 3-4 weeks are non-negotiable. If that sounds like a lot, scroll back up. If that sounds like nothing, you’re our people.
Styling: Blow-dry straight down with a flat brush. You want precision with just enough movement to keep it modern.

Ultra-short, brow-and-above, total confidence required. Your face is fully on display, and that’s the whole point. The newest versions are softer than the old-school blunt micro: slightly grown-out, textured through the ends, a little choppy so it reads bold, not harsh.
Killer with a sharp bob. Killer with long lengths, too. The contrast sharpens the whole silhouette.
Best for: Strong bone structure. Square and heart-shaped faces (the texture softens). Clients who make decisions and don’t look back.
Maintenance: Very HIGH. This is a standing appointment, trims every 2–3 weeks, no exceptions. This isn’t a look you maintain yourself; you’re in our chair every three weeks.
Styling: Blow-dry down with precision. A light styling cream or mousse to keep it from looking rigid. That’s it.
Curly girls: you’re not exempt from fringe season, and we’re tired of the internet pretending you are. Curly fringes are having their moment, and the rules are just different, not harder.
The cut happens DRY. Shrinkage is real and we respect it. Your stylist will tailor the cut to your specific curl pattern, shaping it while it’s in its natural state.
Styling happens WET. Curl cream, twist into place, clip your cowlicks closed, then diffuse on low or air dry. Let the curls lead. The volume and unpredictability aren’t bugs. They’re the feature.
This works with all five fringes above. Long face-framer, curtain, shag, blunt, micro. We can tailor any of them to your curl pattern. Bring your inspo and your curl type, and we’ll make it work.

Round Face → Long Face-Framer or Soft Curtain (opens up the features)
Heart-Shaped → Blunt or Shag (balances the forehead)
Square Jaw → Shag or Long Face-Framer (softens the angles)
Long Face → Blunt or Micro (adds visual width)
Curly Hair → Any of the above, cut dry and tailored to your pattern
Will bangs work with my cowlick? Usually yes, but the style might need adjusting. This is literally what the consult is for. Bring your inspo pics and let’s figure it out.
How often do bangs need trimming? Long Face-Framer: barely. Soft Curtain: every 4–6 weeks. Shag: every 4–6 weeks. Blunt: every 2–3 weeks, no exceptions. Micro: every 2–3 weeks, non-negotiable. (Psst. We offer fringe trims for our existing clients between appointments, no need to go anywhere else.)
Can I get bangs in the summer? Yes. Go light. The long face-frame and shag fringe are your best friends in humidity. Save the blunter styles for sweater weather if you’re worried.
What should I bring to my appointment? 2–3 inspo photos with good lighting and similar hair texture to yours. We’ll translate the inspiration into what actually works on your head.
What if I hate them? The long face-frame and curtain fringe grow into face-framing layers within weeks. They’re hard to regret. But also: you won’t hate them. We’ll make sure of it in the consult.
